Trouble ensues, however, when she tries to abruptly end the relationship. “xXx” and “The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor” director Rob Cohen is in talks to direct the film from a script by Barbara Curry. “Next Door” begins shooting in the fall as Lopez’s other high-profile gig, a judging stint on “American Idol,” gears up for its January start. Blum, who’s known for making films like “The Purge” and his “Paranormal Activity” franchise on a shoestring budget, will produce “Next Door” for between $3 million and $4 million, according to a source close to the project. Blum has several projects set for release next year, including “Paranormal Activity 5″ and “Stretch.” His next thriller, “Insidious: Chapter 2,” hits theaters next week on Sept. 13. Lopez was last seen in “Parker” co-starring Jason Statham. Blum will produce with Smart Entertainment’s John Jacobs, along with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas from Lopez’s production shingle Nuyorican Prods. and Benny Medina. Zac Unterman is serving as an executive producer, while Eric Bromberg and Jessie Israel brought the project to Jacobs. Lopez is repped by CAA. Cohen is repped by WME.
