Busy busy times

Sorry for not posting. I have been super busy with school and still have 3 weeks do deal with it.  If I don't post the next couple of weeks that's why.

'RED' CLOSES IN ON 3 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD WORLDWIDE

'RED' CLOSES IN ON 3 MILLION ALBUMS SOLD WORLDWIDE

Released less than a month ago, Taylor Swift’s fourth studio album, RED, is already approaching the 2.8 million album worldwide sales mark.

After debuting with music’s highest first-week album sales in over a decade, RED is currently in its third consecutive week in the #1 position atop Billboard’s 200 top albums chart, and as of this week RED will have scanned more than 1.8 million albums in the U.S. since its October 22nd release.

RED, released on Big Machine Records, has topped the sales charts in 42 countries worldwide, with international sales topping 920,000 albums thus far. Taylor now has worldwide career record sales in excess of 26 million albums and 75 million song downloads.

This weekend, tickets went on sale for Taylor’s two July RED Tour stops at Foxborough, Mass.’s Gillette Stadium, with the back to back stadium shows selling out in just 5 minutes.

On Friday, Taylor sold out three stadiums: Toronto’s Rogers Centre (sold out in 5 minutes), Detroit’s Ford Field (sold out in 10 minutes), and Chicago’s Soldier Field (sold out in 25 minutes), as well as arenas in Los Angeles (2 shows in 1 minute), Washington DC (2 shows in 5 minutes), Atlanta (2 shows in 5 minutes), Miami, Tampa, Columbus, San Diego and Sacramento. Tickets for Taylor’s two August shows in Kansas City also sold out over the weekend.

Taylor Swift’s The RED Tour will now include 11 stadium stops, for a total of 62 shows in 45 cities in 29 states and 3 provinces in 2013. A complete listing of tour dates, including future onsale information, is available at www.taylorswift.com.

Last night, Taylor brought home her 11th career American Music Award, winning Favorite Female Artist (Country) for the fifth consecutive year. Just a week earlier, Taylor won three European Music Awards, taking top honors for Best Female Act, Best Live Act, and Best Look.

The fan response to Taylor’s RED album and tour has been matched by the project’s critical acclaim, with the album earning rave reviews from critics around the globe. Just this weekend, Vanity Fair dubbed Taylor “officially the new Mick Jagger,” calling her international chart-topper “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” “the year’s best pop song.” VF asks, “Who is more interesting in pop right now?” and praises Taylor’s “hooks and insouciance,” lauding her music as “canny and knowing.”

Lauded by The New York Times as “one of the most important pop artists of the last decade,” and by Rolling Stone as “one of the few genuine rock stars we’ve got these days,” 22 year-old Taylor Swift is a six-time GRAMMY winner, and is the youngest winner in history of the music industry’s highest honor, the Grammy Award for Album of the Year. Taylor is the only female artist in music history (and just the fourth artist ever) to twice have an album hit the 1 million first-week sales figure. She holds the record for the biggest digital sales week ever for a song by a woman, and for the second-largest song sales week overall, as well as the worldwide iTunes record for highest ever first-week album sales.

Taylor, who writes all of her own songs, has an album on Rolling Stone’s prestigious The 50 Greatest Albums of All Time (by women) list, and Time magazine has named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She is Billboard’s youngest-ever Woman of the Year, and her more than 100 industry award wins have included the American Music Awards’ Artist of the Year, the Country Music Association and the Academy of Country Music’s Entertainer of the Year and three European Music Awards.

Taylor’s two most recent albums are two of only 18 albums in the entire history of music to sell more than 1 million copies in a single week. She has had singles top both the country and pop radio charts around the globe, and has thus far scored 11 #1 singles across multiple radio formats. She is one of the top 5-selling digital music artists worldwide, and is the top-selling digital artist in country music history.

Christina Aguilera talks Lotus, Britney and Carly

'Lotus' is just about to drop, are you nervous about how the public will react to it?
CA: I worked hard on this record, and it's definitely something i'm really proud of. I think my music always works best when I really connect with it, I wanted to show off my personality more this time, I have that flirty, dangerous side to me, but I can also be really vulnerable, it was all about showcasing all of these different emotions, and I worked with some great people who really understood my vision. I'm happy with the material and I think there's definitely something for everybody to enjoy.

You will probably have a new legion of fans now due to you being a judge on The Voice, have you taken styles from your previous albums to give them a taste of your back catalogue?
CA: There is actually a song on this record that is my "Fighter Part 2" so that was really awesome to record, I understand that a lot of my newer fans won't know a lot about my past music, so bringing back some of the styles that made me famous in the first place was something I definitely wanted to do, it's kind of like the best of both worlds, you're getting that old school Xtina, mixed with the new age Xtina, and she's pretty feisty. [Laughs]

Speaking of The Voice, how did you feel when Britney Spears joined it's rival show the X Factor?
CA: I was happy for her. [Laughs]

Did you take it personally?
CA: Here's the thing, for years we've been quoted as being rivals, but it really isn't like that. I'm happy for her.

[CONTINUES]

I was surprised at first as I didn't really think it'd be her thing, I never really see her as someone who would want to sit there and judge somebody on their talent, it's just not a show I ever thought she'd be signed up for, but if she's happy, then that's all that matters.

So you're not worried about the ratings war that's going on at the moment?
CA: I didn't realize there was one. [LAUGHS]

You're no newcomer, but is there still a sense of pressure to get a hit single?
CA: Always. I don't think that ever goes away, you just learn to ignore it.

So we shouldn't expect your own 'Call Me Maybe' anytime soon?
CA: Never heard of it.

Christina's New Billboard Interview

Christina Aguilera sees her upcoming breather from NBC's hit "The Voice" as an opportune time to spend time with family, reconnect with fans and, she says, play some tour dates in support of her new album "Lotus."

"It's very interesting, because it won't really in time be that much of a break," she told Billboard's Bill Werde backstage at last week's Film & TV Music Conference. "It'll barely allow me to sort of get back to my fans, maybe see them on the road, have some tour dates possibly."

She added that she's hoping "throw in a vacation" as a well during that time and be "able to have a moment to myself which is so important, and for my family, my son."

As previously reported by Billboard, Aguilera and fellow coach CeeLo Green are being replaced by Usher and Shakira for the fourth season of "The Voice" airing in the spring. After that, she'll be back in the big red chair for round 5 of the hit singing competition.

"It's a much-needed time though, because being out on the road and experiencing my fans, I'll also be able to come back a stronger coach," she said.

In the meantime, Aguilera is revving up to focus on "Lotus," which hits stores and digital on Nov. 13. She has bigger intentions than to just put out a good set of songs, however.

"I wrote and recorded a lot on this record that was made to hopefully inspire the next generation of vocalists," she told us. "Songs like 'Sing for Me.' Songs like 'Army of Me,' which is like a 2.0 'Fighter' if you will."

Aguilera makes special note of a new track called "Blank Page," which she describes as an "amazing ballad that reminds me of the emotional vulnerability yet empowerment feeling that you get from listening to say a 'Beautiful' from previous records."

She added, "My experience as a coach on 'The Voice' has really helped me dig deeper to find new inspiration because I almost feel like it's my responsibility to uphold a certain vocal standard."

Speaking of emotional artistry, Aguilera said she likes what she's heard by R&B newcomer Frank Ocean.

"He has more of a subtle record than most out there," she said. "I love his song Bad Religion. It's beautiful. It's one of those you're jealous it's not your song."
