Taylor Swift Is Unstoppable

SWIFT KICK FOR RECORD BUSINESS
Album Could Challenge Lil’ Wayne Debut with Total Between 800-900k

October 26, 2010

The Taylor Swift set-up—and it’s hard to get away from—has been a massive success.

Her new album, Speak Now, on Scott Borchetta’s Big Machine and the Lipmans’ Universal Republic labels, is exploding at retail in a way that has initial first-week sales estimates between 800-900k and could go higher.

Insiders are even giving it a shot at approaching the first-wek numbers generated by Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter III album two years ago.

And it couldn’t come at a better time for the record industry as it heads into the all-importhat fourth quarter.

Swift appears a lock to turn back the year’s previous first-week sales record, set by Eminem’s Shady/Aftermath/Interscope album, Recovery, in June, with 742k.

Thanks to the early Monday start, as well as robust digital sales at iTunes (where fans who bought singles were able to “complete the album”) and Amazon.com, along with brisk business at non-traditional retailers, the Swift album looks on track for a huuuuge week.

Speak Now appears headed for the largest digital sales week ever for a country artist, and will challenge both the leader, Coldplay’s Viva La Vida, and #2 Eminem’s Recovery, for the all-time, overall record.

Her TV blitz continues over the next few weeks. Yesterday, she performed at the United Nations, with the event streamed live on CMT and the MTV networks. She performed on NBC’s Today Show this morning and is slated for Letterman tonight, Live with Regis and Kelly tomorrow and ABC’s Dancing with the Stars Nov. 2. Ellen DeGeneres will host an album release party for Swift next Monday (Nov. 1). Her NBC prime-time special will air Thanksgiving night (11/25) at 8 p.m., featuring a documentary about the making of the album and the promotional events surrounding its streeting.

The previous largest female Country sales debut was Shania Twain’s Up, which moved 874k in its first week of release in Nov. 2002, while the largest Country debut of all time was Garth Brooks’ 1.085 million for his Double Live in Nov. ’98, until now, the only Country artist to debut with more than a million sold.

Could Taylor Swift be the second? Based on Monday sales, she could be, but we will have to see as the week progresses.

DAMN girl. Go ahead with your bad self. I personally don't like her music but she seems like a sweetheart.

T.I. names and talks about album.

The King’s album title has officially been caged. Following his 11-month prison sentence, T.I. has decided to change the name of his forthcoming album.

The rapper’s seventh studio effort, previously titled King Uncaged, will now be called No Mercy. “It ain’t King Uncaged no more. We had to change the title,” he told Hot 107.9’s Rickey Smiley.

The project was originally set for release in August and was delayed so he could promote his No. 1 film Takers. This occurred prior to his arrest for felony drug possession in Los Angeles in September. He has since been sentenced to 11 months behind bars for violating his probation, but was not charged for the drug offenses.

Tip previously told Rap-Up.com that he had recorded over 100 songs and had to narrow them down to 14 which will make the final cut. He shared his struggles with Chris Brown on “Get Back Up,” one of the songs expected to appear on No Mercy.

Ke$ha talks to EW about upcoming album 'Cannibal'

That “good, positive music” launches with anthemic new single “We R Who We R,” which will go out to radio stations across the country today. Ke$ha penned the topical tune in the wake of the news about bullying that has led to multiple suicides of gay youth lately. She hopes that the song, in particular, will be a pride anthem. “I wanted to inspire people,” she says, “to be themselves. It’s a celebration of any sort of quirks or eccentricities.” Of the album as a whole, she adds: “It’s fun as s—! So I wanted to give [my fans] that.” Cannibal will feature nine tracks, including a remix of “Animal,” the title song from her first album. In addition to being sold individually, the album will be repackaged into a special deluxe edition with her first record to be called Animal + Cannibal. Look for more from Ke$ha about recording Cannibal in the issue of Entertainment Weekly that hits stands Oct. 29.

Taylor Swift breaks Mariah's record

Making a splash into the top 10 is Taylor Swift, who opens at No. 8 with "Speak Now," the title track from her upcoming Oct. 25 album release. Swift's arrival gives her the mark for most top 10 debuts in the history of the Billboard Hot 100, as "Speak Now" is her sixth title to enter the chart's top tier. That total surpasses the five top 10 entries earned by Mariah Carey from 1995-98. Swift's first top 10 debut was with "Change," in August 2008.

"Speak Now" shifts 217,000 to open at No. 2 on Hot Digital Songs, down from the 325,000 moved for lead-off radio track, "Mine," in August. The iTunes digital countdown to "Speak Now" will result in two more tracks impacting the chart the next two weeks, with "Back to December" on deck.

Wow. That is insane. Congrats to her.

Rihanna to Collaborate with Katy Perry?

Rihanna has revealed that she is hoping to include a duet with Katy Perry on her forthcoming album.

The singer, whose latest record Loud is out next month, said that she is keen to collaborate with the 'California Gurls' star after recently forging a close friendship with her.

"We just clicked. We have similar personalities and a similar sense of humour and from there she just seemed like a really down to earth person," she told Entertainment Today.

"In this industry you don't meet a lot of people that are genuine, but Katy is such a free spirit, she has no edit button!"

On recording a song with Perry, she admitted that she is unsure whether the track would feature on her own LP or a re-release of Perry's Teenage Dream album.

"We want to get in the studio and hopefully make something for this album, who knows - or maybe for her re-release. We want to do something together for sure," she said.

On Perry's upcoming wedding, Rihanna added: "Well, I'm going, and it's in India and I'm excited about that because I've never been there.

"I'm just excited to see her get married. I can't wait to see her dress. She won't tell me what it is!"

Should a very interesting but awesome collaboration.

Ciara Changes release date again

Release Date:
December 14, 2010

Source Amazon has it up

Seems legit, maybe she's trying to release it then for holiday sales. Also, maybe trying to recreate the success 'The Evolution' had cause it was released in December 4 years ago.

Just release a upbeat single already and get a decent chart position with the single then release the album 2 monthes after. Hopefully the album will be good.
